Claus Carstensen

Claus Carstensen’s interest in modern philosophy and literary theory has been a cornerstone in his works from the early 1980s, where he was a leading figure in the ”The New Wild Ones” - a loose group of young artists who after German model returned to painting to use the trappings of modern media as a pictorial language with a new nihilist punk attitude and demand for continual change of style.
From his breakthrough exhibition “The Knife on the Head” in 1982, Carstensen has besides painting worked with poetry, video, installation and art theoretical writings, and from 1993 to 2003 he taught as a professor at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
