Anna Sørensen Unimpressed by the major local interest in both narrative and figurative painting Anna Sørensen continues to renew her direct form and colour strong vocabulary. A respect for modernist painting is visible in the organising layers of coloured flat patches and lines, which shapes the informal compositions. The paintings are tactile, noisy and dense as patches of colour (often divided by thick lines or contours) firmly fix each other instead of overlapping. This compositional tension is accentuated by the colour scheme, as fluorescent acrylic lies beneath blocks of both opaque and transparent oil paint. It is this particular correlation between a variety of forms and confident use of colours, which makes the dense compositions vibrate and the details flow back and forth from the flat plane. But as if opposing cogency’s authoritarian touch, Anna Sørensen’s compositions always seem to shift between distortion and a tightly kept balance.
