Allan Otte is among the primary exponents of the new figurative painting on the young Scandinavian art scene.
With cool lack of nostalgia Allan Otte depicts the province as a landscape organized by rows of windmills, silos and stacked pallets.
These human deserted but human influenced culturescapes seems to capture contemporary rural life conditions; an industrialized farming presented through the decay of minor holdings and the almost empty roads transporting truckloads of goods from A to B.
The indecipherable feeling of unease present in these scenarios is underscored by Otte’s characteristic painting technique. Influenced by the various possibilities of image sampling and editing offered by graphics software, Otte’s detailed ‘stills’ turns into carefully and well-defined strokes of paint when studied up close.
The choice of subject matter and untraditional methods of painting lead to subtle holes poked in the naturalist illusion.
